V-Day: 4

As I sit here writing I am trying my best to not throw my computer out the window. A few seconds ago, while searching for facts on sexual assault  I came across the website for the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. The title of the page I came across: "The Vagina Monologues Facts vs. Fallacies Top 10 Common Claims Made by V-Day Organizers/Supporters". So I read the page. Bad idea. Horrible idea. Why? Because now, "My vagina's angry. It is. It's pissed off."  [My Angry Vagina. The Vagina Monologues: The V-Day Edition. Villard, New York:1998, 2001]

I will admit that I was hesitant the first time I went to go see the Vagina Monologues. But after seeing them three years in a row at Cedar Crest College I can say that I love going. I'm no longer hesitant. I plan on going and crying and laughing. Contrary to what the CBLPI thinks the Vagina Monologues empower women, raise awareness for violence, and are not porn.

I would like to add to number 4: Cedar Crest College sold shirts that say "Vagina Security" and sold vagina lollipops.

Oh boy! so it's now 1:24 PM on Monday and I just made the mistake of clicking a link on the CBLPI website.

"Don't let Eve Ensler define women. It's time to reclaim our decency, our modesty, and our intellect. With that, we can achieve great things."

As far as reclaiming my decency, my modesty, and my intellect is concerned: Decency/Modesty, as a women I should be able to walk down the street naked and not have to worry about being raped. It is my body. My vagina.  Intellect: I made dean's list and was accepted to my first choice grad school. So I don't think I need to reclaim my decency, my modesty, or my intellect.

So I think that this post needs to have a fact somewhere so:
Fact:: Every two minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.(Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) calculation based on 2000 National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice)
